Mentorship
I benefit from great mentors. I have also learned a lot from mentees and others who have reached out to me for advice. New entrants to the field bring rich life experience and the latest teachings from academic settings. Allocating time to support people advance their careers helps all of us.
The skills I developed and refined in my previous career have made me successful in my current role. I value the different experiences career changers can bring to new roles.
I formally support education and professional development initiatives in a few ways:
- I serve on the Alumni Advisory Board and have learned a lot from meeting with future, current, and former students at the University of Washington Information School.
- I support ASIS&T members worldwide achieve their goals as the Current Vice-Chair of the Professional Development Committee.
- Locally I am a planning committee member for Seattle’s World Information Architecture Day event.
